• All tour details and itinerary may be altered or canceled due to hazardous conditions, uncontrollable circumstances or any fortuitous event which may arise. In the event that a tour gets cancelled due to these reasons, you may opt to reschedule your tour to a different date, subject to the van and room availability.

La Calaguas, The New Laboracay? Part 1

This years Labor Day weekend is a perfect opportunity to hit the beach.  With soaring temperatures, who could resist the lure of the fine white sand and cool clear waters of an Island somewhere. 

For the last 2 years, people have been flocking Boracay, hence the term Laboracay was coined.  Knowing that it would be more crowded than usual, we opted for a quieter, rustic and remote option.  We were going to Calaguas.

I originally planned the activity for the Architect Chapter organization that I lead.  I have created the invite as early as 2 months prior to attract attendees.  There were a few that responded, but as Labor Day nears, I am only left with 2 companions.  Luckily, my friends, who also adores the beach tagged along.  

I booked our 3D/2N Calaguas adventure with Roadtrip Travels.  I have joined them twice for Baler and with them, I am guaranteed of a hassle free itinerary from transportation, accommodation and island activities. 

On my first Baler trip, I joined the tour group alone, but went home with a Van full of friends. 

Apart from the destination, what make a trip memorable are the experiences and the many encounters along the way.  These are the things that not even the most advanced cameras can capture.

Part of my excitement is getting to know who else is joining our Van.  That was until; they broke the news that we are travelling by bus the night before.  I initially thought we were commuting.  I have no problems with that, but it might turn-off my companions.  I only told them of the changes the last minute. 

We were meeting at Superlines Terminal in Cubao at 9:00 PM with the bus leaving at 10:00PM.  The traffic wasn’t cooperating that evening that the drive from Makati to Cubao took more than an hour.  Nevertheless, all six of us were at the terminal by 9:30PM ahead of a few more people.  I was greeted and directed to the bus by Ms. “A” (Ate Ana) our tour coordinator who would later be known as Ms. Krissy.  It took us a few more minutes before we rolled en-route to Camarines Norte.

Hallerr Baler! Day 03

I wasn't able to sleep much by Day 03.  We were up until about 5 AM sharing stories over shots of Tumbanog.

I think it was around 10 AM that I got up.  Some had already went for their morning surfing lessons while the others took their breakfast.  Since its mid morning already, I together with 3 others decided to just prepare for lunch and pack my stuff.

For this meal, we went to Gerry Shan's Place just beside our favorite Yolly's Ihaw Ihaw.  They were still closed when we arrived, but decided to just stay and wait for them to open.  Another Eat All You Can restaurant but costs 199 pesos including drinks.  I wasn't able to take a picture of the buffet, but their selection includes seafood and Filipino meat dishes.  It was a good deal for the price.

After lunch, we went back to the Transient House to prepare for check out making sure we didn't leave anything.

The first place we visited was the Museo de Baler.  It was closed when we arrived.  Maybe because its a Holiday.  We just took the opportunity to explore the Park and the structures around it.  Including the Jollibee stand across.

A cheeseburger here costs 43 pesos.  I'm not sure if its the same in Manila.

After exploring the main Plaza, we then drop by the house of Dona Aurora Quezon, but it’s also closed.  Instead, we continued the tour with a visit to the Pasalubong Center.  Here you will find shirts and delicacies of the province at reasonable prices.  I dint get anything from here.  My mind was set on taking home the same Suman I enjoyed at the Hungry Surfer's breakfast buffet.  I was told that they sell them cheap at the town of Maria Aurora.

Before continuing our journey home, we made a stop at the Balete Park also in Aurora.  Here stands a huge Balete Tree.   What make the visit fun were the trick shots done by guides capturing the magnitude of the size of this attraction.

Our last stop for the province of Aurora was the Souvenir Stalls at the town of Maria Aurora.  Among the items sold here are wood products, shirts, carved items, and of course the Suman that became my favorite breakfast dessert.

It was almost 9 PM when we reached Cabanutuan for a quick stop to have dinner arriving in Manila around Midnight.
